Good morning from the Pumpkin Patch. We have been getting lots of inquiries about WHY the change in date for this years Regatta. In actual fact, the regatta date did not change...the date for the weigh-off was moved up one weekend. Historically, the weigh-off is held the first Saturday in October. That would have meant this years weigh-off would have been scheduled on Saturday, October 7...on Thanksgiving weekend, and the Regatta would have still been on Sunday, October 15. As the Pumpkin Weigh-off is held at the Dill Farm, and at the request of the Dill family, the Pumpkin Festival Committee agreed with the request to move the Weigh-off date to Saturday, September 30. Last year we had 37 pumpkin boat entries in the Regatta, which was held on Thanksgiving weekend. This year, there are already over 50 pumpkin boats reserved at the farm for the Regatta. I'm sure that this years Regatta will be one of our BIGGEST yet.

Congratulations to Eddy Shaw (ctr) from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, whose hefty gourd tipped the scales
at 1624 pounds.  Eddy's pumpkin set a new PEI record.  Second place went to Steam Mill grower, Fred Ansems (left), with a weight of 1244 pounds.  Finishing out the top three was Jeff Reid of Waterville with a pumpkin weight of 1180 pounds.  It was a great day in the Pumpkin Patch.
